Meet the Doctors
Dan Skaggs, DDS
For years, Dr. Skaggs has been devoted to helping his community maintain a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. His patients have come to depend on his friendly, down-to-earth manner and common sense approach to dentistry that is centered on experience, knowledge and putting every patient’s needs first.
Dr. Skaggs received his formal dental degree from the renowned Creighton University School of dentistry in 1995. He was class president and after graduating was asked to be a member of the Academic Curriculum Committee for the Dental University. He was the first dentist practicing on Fleming island and officially opened the doors for service in July of 1995.
Dr. Skaggs has had the privilege and opportunity to study under some of the world’s best in cosmetic and implant dentistry. He was a founding member that brought the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry to Florida.
Since opening in 1995, Dr. Skaggs has customized his dental practice to serve the specific needs of the local community that he serves. He has been practicing Minimally Invasive Dentistry for the past 10 years, a technique that uses the latest diagnostic lasers, digital radiography, and computerized software to detect a cavity at its earliest stage. Dr. Skaggs is the only dentist in Clay County to use the only FDA approved “Logicon Caries Detector” which uses one half the radiation and half the exposure time of traditional x-rays. By diagnosing decay in this way, Dr. Skaggs is able to repair the tooth in many cases with the “No shot, No drill” restorative technique. Not only is this painless treatment easier on the patient, it conserves valuable tooth structure so that the teeth are kept stronger and will last longer.
At one time or another, most people will need care for a damaged tooth. You don’t need to live with the discomfort or embarrassment. Dr. Skaggs offers the latest in precision-crafted crowns, bridges, and veneers to restore your smile to its full beauty. With tooth-colored fillings, cosmetic bonding, and the latest in dental implants, Dr. Skaggs can help create a full, natural-looking smile that is as beautiful as it is healthy. He can even make stained teeth bright again – up to three shades whiter – with extremely effective whitening systems. There is no need to travel far for advanced care. And he always works to prevent periodontal (gum) disease before any damage is done. All the services you need, right in one place.
Dr. Skaggs goes beyond the basics of cleanings and fillings – with ongoing education in advanced techniques, as well as restorative and cosmetic dentistry, he does what it takes to make your smile as genuine as can be, from the inside out. Ask him what he can do for your smile!

Jennifer Perna, DDS
Dr. Perna comes from Merritt Island, Florida, where she spent her early days performing as a dancer, singer and actress. She changed gears and went to school at the University of Florida for her undergraduate degree. During that time, she worked for a local dentist, and saw the joys of working with patients and improving their lives through dental work. It was then that she decided to become a dentist, and wanted to master the artistic side of dentistry.
She went on to attend the College of Dental Medicine at Nova Southeastern University. During her schooling, she went on many mission trips to under-privileged areas to perform dental work. She witnessed how much joy this brought to those who were helped, and decided to continue bringing that positive impact to as many patients as possible. Dr. Perna graduated from Nova Southeastern University in 2014, and began her residency in North Carolina. She joins us now in Fleming Island, Florida, and we are very excited to bring her passion and skills to our practice!
